How much do you move in a day?

It’s not uncommon these days to hear a typical day go something like this:

Sit down to eat breakfast in the morning
Sit down in car/bus/train to get to work
Sit down at work all day, including sitting for lunch
Sit down in car/bus/train to get home

And at the end of it all we can’t wait to sit down on the sofa and watch some TV to unwind!

We have created a modern lifestyle for ourselves that while convenient and efficient, results in a very sedentary lifestyle.

When we compare this to the lives of our grandparents or great grandparents we find very different daily activities. Chances are your ancestors had to do a lot more physical labour. Maybe they did farm work, had to tend to crops and animals, walked to nearby shops/markets, did repair work around the house, as well as other manual jobs to make money.

Movement and physical work has been part of our lives for 99% of human history. That’s thousands of years of adaptations that we are fighting against when we sit all day.

If you’re feeling like you’ve been sitting a bit too much today, get outside and walk a bit or hit the gym for a quick workout to get you mobile again.

It’s never too late to be a little more human and little less robot.
